In-House Lab Tests
Gone are the days of simple case taking and prescribing; the world has moved beyond that and you should demand more from your Naturopath.
Naturopathic Living was founded based on the principles of German Biological Medicine, that if your ‘terrain’ is healthy, then your body will have the resources and ability to support itself. To that end, we do a number on in-house tests to assess your terrain and give us a snapshot of your overall health. most of these tests are covered by extended health insurance.
Darkfield Microscopy / Live blood cell Analysis
All it takes is a small drop of blood. We project the image onto a large screen so you have the opportunity to see for yourself what your cells are doing. Anyone with chronic disease, prone to recurrent infections, interested in optimal health and disease prevention, or with questions concerning toxicity can benefit from analysis. I consider this one of the most important tests at the clinic. From here we can see what direction nutritionally we need to follow, as well as if the care is working for you.
We get a deeper understanding of the following systems
- Nutritional health
- Immune system health
- Excretory and detoxification capacity
- Oxygen utilization
- The propensity towards degenerative tendencies
Fast for a minimum of 4 hours, preferably 6 prior to your assessment. Try to eat your normal diet and take your normal supplements the day prior to your test as we are trying to assess what your bodies normal is under your current regime.
Urinalysis
Remember when your doctor would test your urine at almost every visit? I was still a child when they stopped, but a urinalysis is a quick way to screen for pathologies, such as diabetes, kidney damage, and urinary tract infections. The pH of your urine lets us assess your body’s acid-alkaline systems. It can also let us know if your body is in ketosis.
Adrenal Function
Extreme and chronic stress has become common in our modern world. The main stress hormone, cortisol, is involved in metabolism, inflammation, allergies, hormone, and thyroid function. This urine test is used to assess and monitor adrenal stress reactions. It can identify the normal adrenal function, hyper adrenal states, early and later adrenal exhaustion. We will use this information in your individualized care plan.
Acid-Base Balance
This test gives a brief insight into digestive health, healthy detoxification, zinc, and acid levels.
Zinc tally
The zinc tally is a simple in-house test used to determine zinc status in your body. Zinc is an important mineral and co-factor for immune function, hormonal balance, brain health, and vision. Signs of a zinc deficiency include low thyroid activity, infertility, hair loss, and slow wound recovery.
Digestion & Microbiome Status
The Indican test is a test for bowel toxicity and screens your urine for the presence of a metabolite called indican. Increasing levels of indican indicate dysbiosis, bowel toxemia, and other digestive complaints. Dysbiosis is a contributor to intestinal permeability, allergies, and food intolerances, poor detoxification, and can affect brain health.
Blood Glucose
Blood glucose is an assessment tool for diabetes and its management.
Blood Typing
Knowing your blood type can be beneficial for the blood type diet, and in some countries, it’s so important its even added to your resume as its believed to indicate your personality type.
Thyroid Assessment
The iodine Patch test is a quick and simple functional assessment for iodine status in the body. Iodine is an essential nutrient for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland and the production of thyroid hormone. Iodine deficiency is very common.
