Jump Into June with Men’s Health Month!

Dr. Edward Chan, Chiropractor

It’s June already, and most of us are looking forward to the summer weather and outdoor activities. Also, June is Canadian Men’s Health Month according to the Government of Canada’s Health Awareness Calendar. Continue reading for some tips on how to maintain a healthy summer lifestyle – for men and women alike.

I encourage everyone to start getting active to be healthier (mentally and physically), enjoy summer activities pain free (hiking, gardening) and prevent any reoccurring injuries (golf and tennis).

May I also suggest the “SMART” system to help you set and maintain your activity goals. The SMART system is broken down into 5 components:

Specific – target a specific area for support

Measurable – quantify or at least suggest an indicator of progress

Assignable – specify who will do it (usually you!)

Realistic – state what outcomes can realistically be expected

Time-related – specify when the result(s) can be expected

For my goal of being more active, I would like to walk more as my outdoor activities have decreased since returning to work during the pandemic.

S – support outdoor walking

M – complete my exercise ring on my Apple Watch, 3 times per week

A – of course I will be performing the activity, but will see who in my family can join me

R – ability to go on prolonged walks without any pain or fatigue

T – hopefully 8 weeks

As you can see, there should not be any stress or anxiety with outlining your goals. They are written down by you, and simply for you to see and to set.

Contact us if you have any questions or would like to support your mobility and activity levels!

Let’s take back our health and enjoy the summer of 2022!
